Example Group Structure
This example shows you how to structure a set of groups that represent part of the childrens work at a fictional church:
Ian and June oversee the Children’s work at a church, they run groups for two different age groups. Alison leads a creche group, looking after two children: Bertie and Charlie. Donna leads a Sunday school group for older children, Elizabeth, Fred and George. Hannah has helped out with both groups on occasion.
Step 1: Identify different activities:
There are two groups mentioned, the crèche, and a group for older children. These can be named by their age ranges for clarity:
Step 2: Identify any subdivisions:
It is useful to distinguish between members of the groups, and adult helpers. The children need to be identified so that attendance can be recorded using the web site, but the adults need to be listed so they can be included on a helpers rota. The solution is to subdivide both groups into Helpers and Members:
Step 3: Establish a hierarchy
This example lists the activity that takes place for the children’s work in a church. You may also wish to include other family-based ministry groups, combining all of them in a parent group called children and family which can now be added directly to the church life group in the folder structure:
